The Hamburg City Pass as Public Transport Ticket
With the City Pass, you can use all HVV transport services if desired. If you choose the public transport option, you receive an HVV day ticket for Hamburg (fare zone AB) for each day of validity. This is valid on all HVV transport services - S-Bahn, U-Bahn, buses and harbor ferries - within the city area.
The HVV ticket is personalized (non-transferable), so carry ID with you. It's valid on the booked days until end of service (approx. 6:00 AM the following day). Up to 3 children (ages 6-14) travel free with each adult. Trips outside the AB zone and long-distance trains are not included.

Practical Usage
- Prepare City Pass: After purchase, you receive the pass as a PDF. Download it to your smartphone or print it out.
- Activation: Your public transport ticket is automatically valid from your chosen start date - you can start traveling immediately.
- Boarding: On buses, show your ticket to the driver; on U-Bahn and S-Bahn, simply board.
- Inspection: During ticket inspection, show your ticket (digital or printed) and your ID if required.
Timetables and Public Transport App
The hvv App (free for iOS and Android) is the official route planner for Hamburg's public transport. It shows connections within the city and current departure times (real-time) and also includes timetables and network maps.
Operating hours: U-Bahn and S-Bahn run on weekdays approximately 5:00 AM to 12:30 AM. Friday and Saturday nights, the main lines run continuously; on other nights, night buses (N-lines) take over after midnight.
Important Lines for Tourists
Airport & Central Station: From the airport, S-Bahn S1 runs directly to Central Station without transfers (approx. 25-minute journey). From Ohlsdorf onwards, only the front section of the train continues to the airport. Central Station is Hamburg's central transport hub with connections to the entire S-Bahn and U-Bahn network.
Attractions: To the harbor (Landungsbrücken, Elbphilharmonie), take U3, S1, or S3. You can reach the Reeperbahn with S1/S3 (Reeperbahn station) or U3 (St. Pauli), and the Speicherstadt (Miniatur Wunderland) with U3 (Baumwall) or U1 (Meßberg).
Recommended Routes: The U3 runs mostly above ground and offers panoramic views of the harbor and city on many sections. HVV Ferry 62 from Landungsbrücken works as a harbor cruise - simply stay on board and enjoy the view from the water. Additionally, bus line 111 runs from the Elbphilharmonie to Altona, passing the Landungsbrücken and fish market.
