Public transport is an option with the City Pass
Unlike the Hamburg Card, public transport is not automatically part of the Hamburg City Pass. At checkout you decide whether to book the version with public transport ticket. If you do, you receive an HVV ticket for zone AB, the whole Hamburg city area, for the booked pass duration. With it you travel without limit on:
- S-Bahn and U-Bahn
- buses, including the express buses
- the harbour ferries of the HVV lines on the Elbe
Journeys beyond zone AB, for instance to Lüneburg or Stade, are not covered; you need a connecting ticket for those.
Airport
Hamburg Airport lies in zone AB. With the public transport option the S-Bahn S1 from the airport to the city centre and back is included. The S1 runs roughly every ten minutes and takes about 25 minutes to the main station. If you start your pass on the day you arrive, you simply board at the airport.
When the option pays off
The public transport option pays off if you use buses or trains several times a day, say between your hotel, the Landungsbrücken, the Speicherstadt and the Reeperbahn, or if you arrive by plane and need the S1 anyway. If you cover your programme around the harbour and city centre on foot and with the hop-on hop-off bus included in the pass, or if you already hold a Deutschlandticket, you can leave it out. Using it
The public transport ticket is part of the digital pass you receive as a PDF by email. During ticket inspections you show it on your smartphone or as a printout. U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations have no barriers, you simply board; on buses you briefly show the ticket when getting on. Its validity runs parallel to the pass, that is for the booked consecutive days. Which transport can I use with the public transport option? +
